Create a staging area on a host other than your vmPRO appliance. You can create a staging area on
any Network Attached Storage (NAS) device that is accessible to both the third-party application and
the vmPRO appliance.
2. Ensure that the directory in which the VM is located is in the staging area, along with the following files:
Note:The VM's directory should have the same name as the VM.
File Description
<VMname>-flat.vmdk The full base disk image.
<VMname>-pancbt.vmdk If you use Changed Block Tracking (CBT), the file containing the
changed blocks since the last full disk image was written. You should
have the latest of these files for each flat file. See vSphere Changed
Block Tracking Support.
<VMname>-.vmx The VM's configuration file.
3. Add the staging area to the vmPRO appliance as additional storage to allow the RecoverVirtual
MachinesWizard to access the staging area. See Configuring NAS Targets for SmartMotion
Backups.
