STEP 1: INSTALLING THE LIBRARY

This section explains how to install the M1500 library in either a desktop or rack mount

configuration. Before proceeding with the instructions in this section:

• Remove the library from its shipping carton and remove the internal packing materials

(see the Quantum|ATL M1500 Library Unpacking Instructions, PN 6421002).

• If the library will be used as a desktop library, install the desktop cover and feet (see

the Quantum|ATL M1500 Library Rack Mount to Desktop Conversion Instructions,

PN 6421005).

• If the library will be mounted in a rack, install the rack mount shelves (see the

Quantum|ATL M1500 Universal Rack Mount Kit Installation Instructions, PN

6421004).

• If the library will be part of a multiple library system, install the StackLink mechanism

in the rack (see the Quantum|ATL StackLink Installation Instructions, PN 6421009).

Warning

The M1500 library weighs approximately 75 lbs (35 kg). At least two people are

required to lift and install the library.

Installing a Desktop M1500 Library

To install a desktop M1500 library, simply place the library in the installation location,

preferably on a sturdy desk or tabletop.

Installing a Rack Mount M1500 Library

To install a rack mount M1500 library:

1. Take precautions to ensure that the rack is stable:

• If you are installing the M1500 at the top of a rack with no equipment at the

bottom of the rack, purchase a rack stabilization kit from the rack manufacturer

and install it before installing the M1500 library.

• If you are installing the M1500 in a rack with other equipment, place the heaviest

equipment at the bottom of the rack.

2. Verify that the rack mount shelves are level

and securely fastened to the rack.
